Emmi Valve (b. 1984) is a comic artist from Porvoo, currently living in Teijo. Her most well-known works include her graphic novels Armo (2017) and Polte (2024). In her works, Valve often explores human themes such as sexuality, mental health, and oppression. She combines autobiographical elements with her distinctive sense of humor, sometimes through even harsh scenes. Valve draws by hand, and her changing techniques feature ink drawings, watercolors, and washes.
Valve lives in a small rural village with her partner and dogs. She spends a lot of time in the forest, in the ice hole, in the sauna, and in the garden, and she loves cooking. Valve develops recipes, especially using zucchini and wild mushrooms, which she grows and collects herself.
Valve enjoys parties until around nine in the evening, tries to remember to stretch during her workdays, and her wardrobe mostly consists of 90´'s vintage clothing. In her free time, she writes, sews, does ceramics, and practices sourdough baking, but she also values the time she can spend doing nothing.
